Hi

I am Sanjeev, i am from India. While searching online for information on PSP i came to know about this wondeful site, which is providing a lot of information and suggestion for PSP affected patients.

My mother was diagnoised as PSP 6 months back, she was facing the gait problems etc from past 2/3 years, so initially it was diagonised as parkinsons, after consulting different doctors we came to know about PSP.

Her condition is getting worsed though she is taking medicines reguarly and continuing some strengthing excerices with the help of physiotherapist.

She is hardly walking nowadays and complaining severe pain in legs, can you please let me know if this is also one of the symptom in PSP or this can be treated.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Sanjeev

Sanjeev,

Sorry to hear about your mother and her leg pain. Unfortunately many of our family members (including my father) have dealt with this problem.

Here are two past threads addressing the same topic that you might want to look at:
http://forum.psp.org/viewtopic.php?t=3350
http://forum.psp.org/viewtopic.php?t=7008

Beyond that, I encourage you to do a search of past posts* for two things:
* posts that contain the words "leg pain" (Other terms used include spasms, contractures, and cramps.)
* others based in India (there have been a couple over the last year or so)

The pain may be part of PSP or it may not be. Can you take your mother to see a neurologist experienced in PSP? Or experienced in pain management?

What medicines is your mother taking? There are two forms of PSP -- a form that looks like Parkinson's, and a form that includes cognitive impairment. Sinemet (levodopa/carbidopa) will only be effective in those with the parkinsonism form.
